Floss Manufacturer or Dyer
The floss supplies are listed, but I would appreciate it if Troy or someone in the group can tell me the maker or makers of the floss that is recommended. Thanks, Troy and ladies!

Hello,

The flosses that the designer used for this pattern are Weeks Dye Works, Gentle Art Sampler Threads, Crescent Colours and DMC floss. Thank you :)

This pattern was done by Annie Beez Folks Art It was stitched on 32c flax Belfast linen using cressent colors, Week Dye Works or DMC or Gentle Art and the count of the pattern is 78 X 82. I prefer DMC it has a reasonable price and it had been in the market for about 150 years and the length of the floss one of the best in the world.

Miss C, there is no "or". The pattern incorporates all the flosses that Kristi has listed. I would not substitute. I am working on a similar project and there is a reason that the designer chose those flosses.

Su Pitt, are you suggesting that they list which brand is which? To me , that is a great suggestion....but unless they start using initials for brands, it could be horrific to whoever is adding the supplies list. You just can't tell by the numbers which manufacturer you're ordering.....but easy enough to make a phone call, I guess! :)

I've wondered about the NOW & BEFORE of some posts. If you're going to have to buy the Overdyed floss anyway, you will know all when the pattern arrives. But there must be a reason to know now.
Just curious? Inquiring minds want to know?
Want to look for a better deal before buying?
Need to know if you already have the floss?
And etc. These all make sense.

Sorry if this is insensitive; I'm interested in why people do things.

I have a large stash, & buy more patterns than I can stitch, as do others on the Chit Chat. I usually wait 'til the pattern arrives, but others obviously can't or don't.

Regarding this post, I don't think EXS should take time to add this information on floss, since they may have to charge me more. I do like it when they include the stitch count, so I can tell if the project is too big for me, but that's it.

That was rough! I wanted to know because some overdyed floss is colorfast and some is not! For such a small project, it means to me that I prewash the floss and knowing if it is colorfast or not saves me time!

I didn't mean to ruffle anyone's feathers or make more work for anyone. It seems that some patterns actually do list the types/brands/kinds/manufacturers while other patterns do not.

Gee whiz! What did I do to set jlhewes off? It was just a simple question and Kristi didn't seem to mind providing a simple answer!
I will refrain from asking questions now. Maybe the thought that I am only good for answering questions will make you all happier...

Geez, Sue. Not ruffled, just wanted to know. Your answer makes perfect sense. Can't someone ask a question anymore? My DH does this to me all the time & it makes me very upset. I say something and be responds " I guess I can't talk to you about this. I'll never mention it again."

I know sites like 123Stitch have a lot more information, but the ladies in Utah may have a lot of volunteers. Fuzzy Penguin in Sacramento had a dozen or more ladies (Sorry, Guys! All women) that cut, priced, cleaned, taught, did books, for a discount on their purchases. All were in Camellia Chapter, so it was well known.

Anyway, I'm not tactful or sensitive by nature, but I did try to be. This "Why do they want this info" has been puzzling me on a lot of posts & I didn't think of the colorfastness problem today.

Truthfully, I will add to clarify that yes, even today, it is hard to believe that not all threads are colorfast but I do know that is the case. I will also add that if I have an interest in purchasing a pattern that requires many different types of specialty threads that I don't own and for which there are no substitutions listed, it likely will be a deal breaker for me to purchase it since I am not interested in storing a few stray skeins from the many various collections out there that I wouldn't end up using. Also, when threads are not listed it can mean that some patterns may require close to 100 colors while others only 30 colors and this is an indication of the complexity of the pattern---the amount of color changing being time intensive. Personally, I look at the floss requirement when I'm looking for a break from a more complex pattern.

Though I have been stitching for years, I have not ventured away from a kit, were the thread is provided, or doing patterns that only have DMC floss. I am comfortable with these two choices.

I agree with you Jlhewes. I was curious as to Su Pitt's question. I am always interested in the questions that are asked on this chat room. Though I have been stitching for over 30 years I still have learned so much from all of you. Like another stitcher said I rarely use anything other than DMC floss, because it is so universal and colorfast.

SuPitt please do not stop asking questions when you have them or adding to this chat room. You are very smart and I enjoy your additions to the chat. Sometimes some of us don't exactly put the right words together and they sound "catty". Believe me it is not mine or anyone else's intention. Look forward to more of your posts.

Have a Merry Christmas!!
