America by Thea Gouverneur
I would love to stitch this but do not want to buy the kit. Is there a pattern available?

VERY PRETTY

Looks like her patterns are already in kit form. That is a shame.

Mrs Nancy this is a kit all the profit go to Thea Gouverneur the designer herself and she just pay the peoples who put it together as a kit I like the design too but you can substitute what you have in mind for another pattern to show the love for America for a reasonable price.

Miss C -- Exactly what are you trying to tell me? I posted to BONES that it was too bad he/she could not purchase the pattern. I said that I liked the pattern. I said nothing at all about wanting to purchase it. In other words -- I like that pattern. I do not want to stitch it. Yes, I know that there plenty of Americana patterns to choose from. Of course, Thea Gouverneur pays people to put her quilts together. So do, other companies that sell cross stitch kits.

Thea Gouverneur has published some books with her patterns in them. The only books that I saw were all flowers. Absolutely beautiful patterns. I like the patterns -- I am not buying the books.

I would have preferred to purchase the pattern for my Gladiola pictures too since I wanted to make four of them but I had to buy the kit. The floss was useless since there wouldn't have been enough for four pictures. The linen was useless since I was using Aida Cloth instead. The DMC numbers were not given with the pattern so I called the company I bought it from and was told I had to contact Thea Gouverneur for them. I emailed her, explained that I needed floss for four pictures, and she refused to give me the numbers. The kit was $50.00 and apparently, she wanted me to buy four of those! I took the floss from the kit to the Ben Franklin store and spent hours matching the colors. I did get them all matched and my the four pictures (48" X 14") are all finished and ready to go to my kids. Thea's patterns are beautiful and I suspect that none of you will be making four of anything - just thought I'd warn you not to expect any favors.

Sorry to hear about the lack of EMPATHY that you received from Thea regarding your request for floss colors. Good PR would've been to assist you in getting the floss colors you needed.

Well, I found the kit at Herscheners at 20% off with Aida 18 count, so I bought it. I think I will make a match of the colors to numbers before I start stitching so I am sure not to run out of floss since it seems she does not respond to issues as you would expect. She may use uniform symbols and I might get back on here to ask Senior Stitcher to compare some floss numbers. I am also interested in her peace rose - my mother had a gorgeous one which reminds me of her everytime I see one.

Bones: I'll be glad to help you with the color numbers if you have the same symbols. Thea didn't put color names on the symbols either so all I had to go by was the floss that was included in the kit.

This might be really a childish reaction on my behalf but I have decided to no longer buy products from companies that will not work with a customer. I don't care how beautiful it is and how badly I might want it, after hearing those accounts I boycott!

Just to add my two cents worth.

Why would I spend long minutes or hours doing a floss conversion for someone who is not going to buy my product?
We get requests all the time from people who want us to convert cotton to silk or vice versa. I don't think they really stop to think how long this may take. There are lots of on-line conversion charts available. If I was the clerk at the store where you were trying to color match, then that's different. That results in a sale.

I'm afraid I'm with Thea on this one. The fact that you want to make 4 of something is not the designer's problem. You chose to purchase her design the way she presented it. If you decide to change things, then the onus is on you.

I'm not unsympathetic to SeniorStitcher- that's a big project. I'm glad they turned out so well.

Just putting forth the other side of the argument. No flames please... ;)
