How are you staying warm?
Just a new question...How are you staying warm. I love being barefoot. I hate wearing stuff on my feet. With this weather, I am wearing thick socks. I want to know your creative ways to stay warm.

xstitcher, I wish that I could help you but I am always hot! It drives my husband crazy because he is always cold. He wears flannel loungewear and long sleeved cotton tops and spends most of the day on the couch under a heavy blanket. I keep the thermostat at 72 now that it's so cold here but if I am cleaning it's on 68. We have tile in a large part of the house, it's nice in the summer but not so pleasant in the winter. No basement, so the floor is cool. We wear house slippers all year round.

So all I can recommend is this - wear all the stuff that I wouldn't. Thick socks, warm clothing, a blanket when you aren't moving and turn up that thermostat!!!

Where do you live and how long is winter??

St. Louis. I'm fine all day moving around. But come 10/10:30 my feet get cold and by the time I go to bed I feel like my feet are ice cubes. I hate stuff on my feet but these past few weeks have tried slippers, socks... just uncomfortable. Rates right up there with chapstick and gloves. Hate those too.

So do I. DH cannot live without Chapstick. His greatest source of amusement is my reaction to a "Chapstick kiss". Yuck! Have you tried a hot water bottle. I don't trust the electric blankets, etc.

St. Louis? I think Nancye mentioned that she lives there. Go to her house! Drink lots of hot tea. LOL

I don't know your age but circulation might have something to do with it.

You are correct. Nancy lives nearby. Not sure how close, but we seem to hit the same stores. Tea would be nice. Tonight I tried something different. Got home from book club and the socks are not driving me crazy. I'm thinking it has something to do with wine, dinner and great friends. Our book was The Girl on the Train.

Okay, now we know that you have to drink at least one glass of wine before you put on your socks!

Girl on the Train, I looked at the book on Amazon but got side tracked. Is it good? I'm wondering about Kindle books now. It's convenient but you can't share the books with anyone. I had shelves and shelves of books and got rid of most when we moved here. Until this last move the Government paid for the moves, so I decided to purge since we had to foot the bill. But it really wasn't that much. I kind of miss not having a lot of books around.

Let me know please. I am so far behind with reading, stitching, cleaning, and loads of other stuff. I guess age is creeping up on me.

Fleece is good. People in Seattle live in fleece, get married in fleece, and so on. My sister lived there & shared the secret.

The thermostat is good too, though the power company here in the Central Valley of California hates us. If I get cold, I'll get sick & damage my lungs more, so staying warm isn't a choice.

As for feet, I too like bare ones. Was raised in Mich in a drafty house, so the feet feel normal cold.

The Girl on the Train is good so far. I didn't finish it yet- luckly this is not a requirement among friends. Had a hard time getting it at the library. They have quite a waiting list. Hopefully will have it finished by the weekend.
Military? We have Scott AB and Jefferson Barracks near here. Use to teach near JB. My brother is retired navy. now lives in CO... totally land locked. My SIL talks about all the purging she did before each move. She is talented. I would rather be anywhere rather than purge stuff. I get very side tracked,

I like being bare footed too, but with Michigan winters, my feet will go cold. So I do the thick socks long enough to warm them up. Only these past two sever winters, that wasn't working. So I bought a pair of those fleece-lined slippers from LLBean. They were rather expensive, but I was desperate. And they warmed my feet right up--have them on now. As soon as my feet get warm enough, they will come off, and I'm barefoot until I need them again. I also put a heating pad down at the bottom of my bed to warm up my feet area.

I just started Natchez Burning for my library's mystery book club. I hope it is good because it is almost 800 pages long. The sequel to it comes out in April. A friend read the Train book, and said it was OK. But my house is like yours was Texas--books everywhere. I have lots I want to read. I have a Kindle, but I prefer a "real" book in my hands. I use the Kindle mostly for the Internet.

With this cold weather, I've read four books last week, But Natchez is going to take a while. I have another mystery to read for my other branch library's book club too. Freezing in SE Michigan, Adele

XSTITCHER -- This is St Louis. Stop complaining about the cold -- pretty soon we will be having 90 degree plus temperatures with matching humidity. -- Really, I hate the cold also. I walk around with heavy socks, sweatpants, and a sweatshirt over a regular top. I'm not a tea or coffee drinker. My beverage of choice is Coke.

I live near FeeFee between Olive and the Page extension.

At the moment my cross stitch is taking a back seat to my sewing project and life's other challenges. We do need to get together soon. Maybe we can go on a thrift store adventure and take your mother with us -- when the weather warms up.

I'm in Cleveland and it was -17 the other morning. It's supposed to be up to 22 today = a real heatwave! I have been wearing socks and slippers and staying inside. I used to be hot all the time too, but I guess my age has caught up with me and made me cold this winter. I too, have been reading and stitching. I also prefer a "real" book rather than a Kindle or Nook. Stay warm everybody and keep stitching! Linda
