DMC color dye changes?
I just got bits and pieces of conversation on this chat about DMC changing their color dyes and/or numbers? Would someone fill me in on this please?? Thanks!

Bermuda -- this is what happens. Somebody starts a chat line on a specific subject. Someone else makes a comment and we end up chatting in a whole different direction.

One several occasions it has been stated that DMC has discontinued some of their colors. Then, someone said that they have given new colors the old numbers.

#1 -- DMC claims that they NEVER discontinue a color. I, personally, find that hard to believe.

#2 -- why would they re-use an old number. It would be impossible for them to run out of numbers. Right?

Okay Stitchers, the debate on DMC numbers is now open for discussion.

I'll be interested in reading any DMC "number changing" debate...the simple solution (maybe) would be to call DMC and ask them....

I haven't had a problem finding any of the DMC floss colors, just a bit of a variation of the floss colors (because of the difference in dye lots?). I have found that not all stores carry all the DMC floss numbers ie. Wallmart is one of those stores. I was looking for a specific DMC floss color and they didn't have it; didn't even have a container space for that particular floss number which would've made me consider that the store was just out of that particular DMC floss...nope! the DMC numbered slots just jumped over that number and continued on with the other flosses.
I DID find the floss number I was looking for at Joanne fabrics...

As for the KIT I spoke of in a prior "chat". I frogged the "thin" threads (that came with the kit) out of the fabric and used the DMC floss I bought at the store individually to begin re-stitching the pattern....

Nancye and jlhewes,
Thanks for the clarification. I worked when I was a teenager in a yarn dye factory. That's how I learned about dye lots and the slight differences in color that each dye lot can be.
