plastic needle
I seem to have a metal allergy or fabric allergy. I stitch a lot and my fingers are very sore. Does anyone know if a plastic needle is available. I'm trying to narrow down the reason for my "condition"

I have not seen a plastic needle. Might try a titanium needle and/or gloves. I have several thing that I am allergic to, including nickle, methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI), methylisothiazolinone (MC) and formaldehyde releasing chemicals. I imaging all of which can be found in fabric sizing and floss. I ended up getting patch testing done, as I couldn't isolate the culprit of my inflammations. Good luck to you, as it can be a tedious process to self-identify.

I Googled "do plastic embroidery needles exist" and there were a couple of links.

All of the ladies I know with this type of problem use a Platinum needle.

While they are more expensive, they do not cause any allergic reaction and last well....just don't lose them!

John James makes Platinum needles.

You might also try multiple rinsing of your fabric, as there may be finishing chemicals. And if all else fails, my local grocer store sells very form-fitting, non-latex, gloves.

Oh, and if washing fabric, use one that is fragrance- and dye-free. Good luck!
