aida material
Has anybody noticed that there is a right side and a wrong side to aida cloth. I noticed a difference in the piece of material I am stitching on at the moment and of course I am stitching on the wrong side. Am I going to unpick it - am I heck!! I don't think anyone will notice it. and if they do - too bad - it's finished and that is that! Next project please.

Yes, quite a few years ago I read a pattern that actually said to stitch on the smooth side (or something similar). In truth, I don't worry about it. Some aida show more than others. Most I can't tell and I am not going to worry with it (like I would anyway!) Nobody is going to notice it and if it's not having to frog, then not to worry. Honestly, I don't look (except that one time).

Its funny...I never bothered to look till I started quilting. 😊 Now I check to see if I need to notice...does that make me a compulsive something? 😨

I read about that several years ago. I never remember to check when I am ready to stitch. It obviously isn't a big difference or stitchers would make frequent references to that fact.

I don't worry about the right side or wrong side of my Aida fabric. I wash all my fabric before I start stitching and I can't tell the difference after that.

You know I'm going to have to go look at my current WIP to check....☺

Synagel- can I ask why you pre-wash your fabric? Just curious😑

I prewash my Aida fabric before I use it because it is usually somewhat stiff. By prewashing it in my washer on gentle cycle and using fabric softener then air drying it is softer and easier to handle especially on very large projects. Have done this for over the 30 years I have been stitching.
