Probably just the species and not the pattern. Peacocks originated in India so they're sometimes referred to as the Indian Peacock. (But then since there's no other species of peacock from any other country it's kind of redundant;) )

It just so happens that I did a little research on peacocks this past week. A book I was reading had a giant peacock "guarding" a secret hideout and chasing people away. It was a silly story but made me giggle and want to find out about peacocks. Turns out that peacocks are part of the pheasant family. There are three distinct groups two native to India and Sri Lanka and one in Africa. Only the males have the pretty feathers and the females are referred to as peahens.

So now you all know what I know!

Don't forget the peachicks! ;)

The turkey is also a member of the pheasant family, think on that this Thanksgiving:)

Funny thing. There was an ANSWER about peacocks on Jeopardy this afternoon. I don't remember what it was and I didn't have a pen and paper available to write it down.

Are peachicks the opposite of chickpeas? How we do name things!
