Floss
Has anyone found the floss that comes with this kit to be very delicate?

Is this from a kit? I only ask because when I graduated from kits, I immediately started using DMC. I used to stitch models for a store in Shawnee, OK. I have never had any trouble with any DMC floss. I love, love your kit pattern. Please tell me that you are trying to just finish with it. If you have have just started, maybe you could go to your local stitchery store and have them help you pick out the colors. This is the third time today that I have recommended getting a DMC chart with the actual thread colors so you could match your kit colors vs. DMC. Most kit thread is not worth taking a chance on. I had a large pattern of a chicken (really cool) and when I washed it the color bled everywhere and no matter what fix I tried, didn't work and it ended in the trash after all the hours invested, If you are almost done, just be very, very careful how you you pull your floss in and out. I hope this make sense. Like I said, the pattern is just gorgeous. Good luck. Peace Pam

Hello. Maybe you need to use a larger size needle. The info on your Riolis kit says the floss is wool and acrylic, not cotton. If the fabric is Zweigart the thread should be good quality too. That thread might be slightly fuzzy and a little more difficult to stitch with. Using a larger needle and stitching with shorter lengths of thread might relieve some of the problem. I hope that it works out because that is a beautiful design.

Thanks luvtostitch, I did know squat about that kind of thread. After my kit disaster just stuck with DMC. Not familiar with Riolos. So glad you could help.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. Yes, this is a kit. I have only JUST started this kit; I WILL be finishing it. I've been cross stitching for many years off & on and I will be using the floss that came with the kit as I'm of the belief right now that this floss is used for the reason of the look of the finished project. I will keep in mind the thought from another reply that cautions about cleaning the project and that the colors may run. Perhaps I'll wash the colors before going any further. I do have an idea about the floss and if it works I'll certainly let everyone know. Thank you again to everyone who has replied. Sometimes one question asked can help many people a lot. :-)

Edw, if I have offended you in any I apologize, I should have recognized the name riolist right away. A couple of weeks ago I ordered a kit called sparrow, I loved the simplicity of it and reminds me that if a sparrow falls He knows. If you get a chance and look at "the sparrow". you would see how beautiful and yet simple the kit is.If I offended you in any way my apology to you and I wish you the peace the image of the sparrow conveys. Peace Pam

Edw, if I have offended you in any way, I apologize. Of course you should finish what you started an it will be as endearing as the pic you posted. Have you seen their pattern "The Sparrow". I ordered it about a month ago. I did not understand what the directions wanted me to do and the floss was so fragile. I put the pattern and floss up for a future endeavor. Your design is beautiful, your colors are what sparrows would be. If you get a chance go on the e

Pam: No offense at all taken. I do so very much appreciate any help or thoughts. Two heads can be better than 1! Sometimes text & writing can be hard to interpret. I just started this kit & as I mentioned before I do plan 2 stick with it. I appreciate a challenging project sometimes. I have found a way to work with how delicate the thread is. I have found that by dampening the thread it helps it 2 not be quite so delicate. I have not found the colors to run or bleed which is a blessing. I think if I had run into colors running or bleeding I would be going to my craft store for DMC thread & starting over. Wetting such delicate thread does seem to be helping & now I'm VERY excited to finish this super cute project. This is where I'm at in the project right now. I'll post a picture when it's finished. I can't wait!

Thank you. I was worried that I insulted you or hurt you which would never be my wish. Pam

I seem to remember sometime ago a stitcher was doing a Riolis kit of a snowy owl and they commented that the thread was very difficult to work with . Looking at their kits it appears that most of them use an acrylic/wool mix thread so care will need to be taken. The person doing the owl said the finish is beautiful so you will have to decide whether to continue with their thread or substitute matching threads of another brand to complete the kit. Good luck it looks very pretty.

edw, I understand from previous posts, Riolis kits comes from Russia. Possibly that's why there's a different type of "thread" being used in this kit. It's good you're using extra care in cross stitching this kit.
