It depends...usually center...but experimenting with upper left... 😊

There should be directions with the pattern to show you how to find the center and then work out. You could just fold the fabric in halves, then quarters and where the point of the fold is---is the center. There should be arrows on the pattern also. One at the top and one on the left side. Where these 2 arrows meet on the pattern is the center.

Sorry, thought it was like a survey question! 😊. If you are beginner, you need to find center to fabric and begin stitching with the center of your pattern. Beginning this way ensures you are centering your design. Maubennett wouldn't lead you astray, but if you still aren't confident, there is lots of video on floss tube/YouTube for beginning your project.

It depends, if it is a small piece (one page), I start in the middle. If it is several pages, I start in the upper left hand corner. I have tried starting in the middle on large pieces, but I don't like it.

Neither do I with the big projects; I always begin in upper left corner with them. Strongly suggest If you do begin any ‘ULCS’ (upper left corner start) after you have found where to place your very first stitch, that you cross Stitch this very top row of the pattern all the way across the fabric till you do the last ‘upper RIGHT corner stitch’ and Then hold the fabric up to ‘eyeball’ (or use a ruler) to check that the pattern is centered on the fabric. Saves time stitching and hysterics if you are not centered...😉

I had learned how to needlepoint from my mom then I had this idea of how to cross stich when I had gone to school to learn other languages. We had a class specially for how to do broderies and cross stitching. This how I had learned how to cross stitch but now who ask me the question that you had asked I always say youtube.com will explain it to you from A to Z better than myself. Enjoy.

I'm working on this particular pattern right now! It's one I started over a year ago, then put down to work on other things (it's pretty "demanding" - with tons of blended colours). I started in the middle, which you can find in the center bottom of section 1 and section 2 (this pattern is spread across four pages - two, two page spreads). Keep in mind that there are areas that are over one instead of over two, and those have separate charts in the book. They occur right towards the center area. I just left those spots unstitched and started with the center figure, worked my way up, then to the right, and started on the border going round. My last four days of progress:

Coming in 3" for margin I always start upper left corner too.

Here's my 2-cents worth... After figuring out size, based on fabric, I start in the upper right. (Don't forget 3"on each side...6"extra total.)I know that's contrary to most directions, but I have a method. I do mostly needlepoint, and with basketweave, you work from upper right to lower left. I stitch 2 handed, no matter what I do, and no matter if it's with a scroll frame or stretcher bars... my dominant right hand is on the bottom and my left is on top. I don't want to drag across stitching, so... I start upper right. That's my method. Remember... there are no needlework police. Do whatever works best for YOU! Barb

I begin in the upper left corner of a project versus upper right because I’m a ‘leftie’ and it is much easier for me. On the downside of this - like writing in school as a ‘leftie’ child - I had to flex my hand to prevent the side of it rubbing against the words already written and have graphite or ink on the side of my hand; which translates keeping my hands (especially the side of my left hand clean as it slides over the completed stitches. I did attempt to start in upper right corner a couple times- it was a ‘bummer’.😦
