14 point versus 18 point
Hi,

I want to buy a crossstitch as a thank you gift. I don’t know anything about crossstitch, but I know she does 18 count (very fine) and unless you get really close to her crossstitch you would think it was a painting.

So, is 14 point larger stitches and are the cross stitches more recognizable?

Yes,, 14 count would be 14 stiches per inch, making the stitches bigger than the 18 count which would be 18 stitches per inch. I hope that makes sense.
Just another late night stitcher!!!

I read the question as Carole wanted to buy a pattern to give as a gift. Yes, 18 count fabrics will be finer than 14 count finished work. If you are buying a pattern only the count won't make a difference. If you are buying a kit make sure the fabric is 18 count. If you are buying a pattern and supplies on this site -- you will probably see the suggested supplies listed. Cross Stitch supplies are wonderful gifts.

Thanks, Nancye. I guess I did not interpret this very well. Cross stitch as a gift is wonderful. Peace always. Pam

Hi Pam -- Recently I misinterpreted a posting and you pointed out what I had missed. I guess that makes us a good team.
Have a good week off. Shalom
