Love Oklahoma weather
Just another day in Oklahoma
Posted by: cdess on 07/20/18
Yes, and I am in Oklahoma. It is 93 degrees outside now at night. Tomorrow triple digits again. No rain=yard hard as a rock. I hate it. I run outside to water=sprinkle here, sprinkle there=run in to house. We have central air and the lady that lived here had a super old window unit that I turn on in the afternoon to help central air rest. I am in SE Oklahoma. Take care and try to think "iceburg". Peace. Pam

We might think "iceberg" , but we see evaporated dry spot. Ugh. 😊

Love it!!!! Not the heat though. I am in Michigan and we have had our share of hot weather as well - only a few more months and we can start complaining about the snow and cold again!

Love the cartoon!
Pam, I feel your pain. It was supposed to reach 110 today without the heat index. Masochist that I am, I am now going to watch the weather report. We are under a heat advisory until Monday night. I pray that my 8 year old AC will make it through the summer, even one day without AC would be unbearable, especially for my poor DH. The devil must have ridden me when I decided to settle in TX.
I console myself with the fact that we don't have to worry about ice and snow in the wintertime. The summer months are pure hell. If only we could get a little rain. Like you, Pam, I run outside and give my poor plants a little water but it requires at least six trips for the one flower bed. I'm worn out from the heat when I'm done. We can only turn our sprinkler system on twice per week. It's not nearly enough. I keep all the blinds closed during the day. It's like living in a cave but it does help keep things cooler. I turn off most lights and TVs. What a sad existence. Do you have solar screens? They help a bit.
Time for yet another bottle of cold water.

We are keeping our blinds shut and it is as dark and the lights minimal. Our ac unit is at least 25 years old and I am praying for it to give me one more year. We have a old,old Kenmore window unit that the previous owners left only to be used in case of heat emergency and I turn it on about 2 and turn the thermostat up so our central unit doesn't run continually. I am so ready for summer to be over, let's jump to October and add a little rain. My little crepe myrtle bit the dust and I love them so much. Take care and think "cool". Pam

Wow, Pam, how did you make it last 25 years. That's unheard of these days. Our tech who performs the tune ups told me about some AC unit that doesn't have to be mounted in the window. It's placed in the room. I have to investigate. He said it's great for a back up until the AC can be repaired/replaced. It only cools that room though. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. My friend's unit went out in the spring. They were without air for two weeks. They did a lot of comparison shopping because their house is huge and they had to replace both units. My poor DD has three units. It is nice because you always still have one or zones you can retreat to. But when it comes to servicing or replacing things get costly.
I'm so sorry about your crepe myrtle. I love them myself. I have three. I am particularly fond of my Natchez. It's got a single trunk. It was just a baby when I bought it 8 years ago and now it's above the roof. Then I have a small pink one, something cotton candy, I think and my Black Diamond. Keep watering it and cut it back in the spring. It might yet make it. Somebody told me that nothing kills a crepe myrtle and he has at least 10 on his property.
I don't know if we'll ever get rain again. There is a 10% chance some time next week, somewhere in TX. Whenever there are thunderstorms, they are east and west of us. Stay cool.
Oh, I keep my AC at 73. I like 71, maybe 72 but don't want to stress it too much. My poor DH is too sick to be sitting in non AC environment.

Normally, winter and summer I keep it at 70 but with the triple digit heat it is at about 73. People don't believe in global warming, but all over the states and the world weird things are going on like the the poles melting something is going on. I don't know why my small crepe myrtle bit the dust. When we cross over the river and go to Paris, there are tons of crepes over there. I guess I am the only person in the world that could kill one. I hope one of our Canadian friends send us one of those cold fronts!!! Pam

This Canadian friend would love to send you a cold front....but, alas, we have none to send! It has been hot and humid here as well. Not as hot as what some of you are experiencing, but for our area, it is hot. We finally got some rain over the weekend, but it may be not enough for some of the crops. Dreading the return of winter as I hate the cold... I love this heat, but can live without the humidity. Mary

It's been very hot and humid here in Winnipeg too - with the humidex around 105F-115F so yes the AC goes on. We have a bit of rain now and then and then it gets hot and humid all over again. And yes we'll complain about the snow and cold in the winter. Love the cartoon!!!
