Not a good way to start anyone’s day.
A young man, who has some mental challenges, rides his bike on our road every day. Today he was in an accident in front of my house. Thankfully he wasn’t injured. I saw him, saw the car, and heard a loud thump. I called 911, then ran outside to check on him. He told me he was okay, and said he rides on the road all the time. I don’t think he understood what a close call he had. The driver of the car was attempting to pass him, when he did a U turn, and he ran into the car. The police had a long talk with him, hopefully he will follow their advice.
Side note, they sent 2 cars, (4 officers), a fire truck, (3 people)and an ambulance (another 3 people) I think it took an hour for my heart rate to return to normal, and I still haven’t found my coffee mug, Mabel (who was forced to stay inside, against her will), barked like a maniac until everyone left.

I am glad that the young man was okay. And, hey, Mabel was just doing her job. She's probably so revved up on her cuppa joe if you had just let her out, she would have sorted out all those people and sent them on their merry way. Tell her there is a GS in Oklahoma that would have had her back!

Thank goodness he and your heart rate is ok. Did the driver stop??

Yes, the driver stopped, she checked on the man on the bike, she was going to leave when she saw he was okay, but I suggested she should stay, and talk to the police.

Yes, don’t want anyone, especially the young man’s parents and police, getting the idea in their heads that she ‘left the scene of an accident’ even if it wasn’t the driver’s fault.

As a former EMT-A, I can tell you that the Dispatcher sent the personnel that he/she felt was necessary. When people call in emergencies, a lot of times they can't (And shouldn't) determine what equipment/personnel are needed. What if the young man had been pinned under the car? What if another car may have become involved? What if leaking gasoline may have ignited? I ALWAYS appreciated all the police & fire help on accidents. At least you know your Emergency Services respond with all necessary personnel.

I didn’t mean to imply the sent too much help, just that that’s the kind of great services we get here. They are the best (well we think so) I don’t know how many times I had to call for them to come and pick my mother up when she fell, or my neighbors when they have fallen. Where else have the police had to coral a kangaroo, and put a wandering pig in their cars?

I so remember about the pig and the kangaroo. No, I never thought that you were implying there was too many people. About a month ago, was when a doe (I live in town) that found her way into our back lot. We had 2 police cars, the game warden, and the Sheriff repond. I had to laugh because it was the female police officer who was able to get her cornered and into her squad car. The doe was worn out. And I was so worried about the doe. They took her to a rehab center.
