Out All Year
Would this be a good one to give to someone in hopes that they will keep it out all year?

I think it would depend on the individual person. To me, it reminds me of Christmas.

I am with you marzhere it reminds me of Christmas and snow, but I also agree with carrissa, it depends on the person. I tend to judge my seasons by what type of bird shows up, blue birds and robins in spring, turkeys and magpies in the fall, but that is just me.

first of all. Be absolutely certain that the person you are stitching it for would appreciate it. My opinion -- if you eliminate the berries it would not be so Christmas looking.

I might consider leaving off the pine branches AND the red berries, and just have him sitting on the branch with the green leaves. That might take away from the beauty of the design, though. I like the way it looks as is, and I'd keep it up year round, especially, as Pam says, if someone made it for me. I have a little silver Santa that I keep out year round, because my friend gave it to me.

Oh, wait! I almost forgot, I leave this one out all year, and it's very similar to the one you are considering, Katy! A friend stitched this for me.

Susie your one is gorgeous. As for the red cardinal picture I would have it on show all year as something this pretty should not be put away just because it looks Christmassy.

First. People are weird. Two. What is displayed all the time is not always the receiver's choice.

Do they have hand-made items displayed? Does this fit/blend well? Color appropriate? And WHY must it be displayed "all the time"? Are you making a gift, or making a demand? ๐Ÿ˜Š

Pam, you know as well as I, homemade is not always the best choice FOR THE GIVER, OR RECEIVER! Who was it that complained and was so sad when they found a gift they had made for their mother, under the bed in the guest room? Others feel awful when they never see their creation, which took weeks to stitch and a small fortune to frame, again. I thought they were good questions! If you include the requirement of permanent display with the "gift", is it still a real gift? When you give a gift, it's gone. Your joy was in the creation...but when you gift it away, your right of choices is non-existent...which can be a joy in itself. IMHO, gifts are gifts, I hope the receiver loves them, if they dont, I hope they gift it to someone who does love it, exchange it...I give to make them happy, not put a Sheldon-type burden on them. ๐Ÿ˜Š I think I was just knocked off my soapbox...deservedly so. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I'm pretty choosy about who I make things for and (try) to make things only for those who would appreciate them. Doesn't always work, but I try.

I kind of stick to asking family members if they want me to do a crossstitch pattern for them then they need to pick out the pattern they want and let them go through my pattern stash. Itโ€™s still a gift but itโ€™s something they like... if itโ€™s big and detailed I warn them that it may take a couple YEARS.
