Holiday candy question
I am trying to figure out if clear toy candy is just a Lancaster County/Pennsylvania thing or is it something national or
even global. Always got it
In my Christmas stocking.

Toy candy? Is that edible? Do you mean rock candy? It was clear and used to come on a string. Very sweet. It was very hard and you couldn't bite into it. I lived in metro Detroit. Don't remember the last time I saw it.

No Nancy. These are called clear toys. They are normally red, green or yellow and came as lollipops or just the candy. Were shaped like horses, boots, rockets etc. very sweet and tended to get sharp as you licked them. I haven’t had rock candy in ages. Remember that used to come in the bottom of Rock and Rye whiskey hence the name.

Ladies - We in the Cleveland area are lucky enough to have a company that stocks all the old-fashioned candy we remember from our childhood, and they carry Rock Candy. Check them out at B. A. Sweeties. The do ship! ! ! I always have mixed feelings shopping there - they have sooooooo many things (which is great), but I usually spend way more than I planned (which is not great).

Born and raised in PA and never saw that kind of candy. I made a note from MK's post with the name of the candy company. If it is candy, gotta check it out.

Never saw them in Texas. Maybe a regional thing? Wiki mentions Germany and PA... Did find http://www.clearcandy.com

I know what you are talking about and I grew up on Long Island in New York and we had them as kids during the holidays - and I live in Lancaster now and I dont think they are just endemic to here

Sweeties, yes! I could wander around in there for days. The candy, the gum, the sodas! The old store was bad enough, but the new one is insane.

Like NancyG, I live in the Metro Detroit area and never heard of these. Nancy - I remember rock candy, but it was "clustered" on a stick so you eat it similar to a lollipop. Use to get them when we went skiing up at Boyne Mt. when we were kids.

I remember them on stick. Molded clear candy in shapes of toys. They were more expensive of course, so you could get several candy sticks or other candy for the price of just one of these. I'm in East Central Indiana.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania and I remember you candy. I lived in the area just north of Easton and South of Stroudsburg known as the Slate Belt because of all the slate quarries. My mom always bought my brothers and I toy candy and ribbon candy for Christmas. I know ribbon candy is still available but haven't seen toy candy in years. Boy does that bring back memories!
