hoop size,,,,,does it matter
I was shopping on ebay, someone had stamped cross stitching quilt blocks for sale. They described the blocks and then said was all done with a 6 inch hoop. Does it really matter what size hoop you use to hold the fabric? I find it strange never heard of such a thing.

I have never seen where it mattered about the hoop. Stitchers use all kinds and sizes of hoops, frames and some just free hand. I am a stitcher on this web site. Pam Did the hoop come with the quilt blocks maybe?

The size of the piece you are stitching will also determine the size of the hoop you can use. For example, if the material is 10" square, you probably wouldn't be able to use anything larger than a 6" hoop. Sometimes you just have to stop and think and then use your best judgment.

Everyone has their own preferences for the size of hoop that they use on a project. I use a 7 inch plastic metal spring hoop on all my projects whether large or small. Even the ones that have patterns that are 25 to 30 pages long. Has worked for me for 30+ years of stitching.

You should just use what is comfortable for you.

I never use hoops! I prefer Q-Snaps for smaller projects and scroll frames for the larger ones. So no, you can use whatever size hoop you prefer, not use one at all, or use something else. There are no rules in cross-stitch!

I am totally with syagel. I have small hands so the larger hoops cramp my hands. I usually use the 7" plastic hoop and have for over 25 years. Just replaced it the other day as the spring wasn't holding it as tight as it should. Have fun working on your project.

I’m happiest with a 6 or 8 inch hoop....not too bulky or heavy. I don’t do large projects.

I'm just glad it doesn't matter, I thought I was doing wrong all these years. I use whatever size depending on project.

Hi mighty, in my opinion once you get into the swing of things there really aren’t any rights or wrongs in stitching. Here you will find a buffet of ideas so you can try out as many as you want to find out what suits you best or perhaps you just want a change....here’s the place to ask. There will always be somebody to help.

I usually use a 6" Qsnap frame but I am thinking of trying the 6" hoop that came with the Stitching Stuff box. Just like everybody said there are no stitching police. Do what you want!

I like using an oval 8inch (I think) hoop. I have found a few at sales and have reallly enjoyed them. It gives me more space in the direction I need especially when I am xstitching bibs, and towels.
