applying Gold cable
I've never used the gold cable this pattern requires. It is listed as gold cable - Balger 002P. I could not find Balger listed, but found the Kreinik gold cable or cord (are they the same thing?) 002P. Instructions say to use 1/2 cross. I'm confused as to 1/2 cross terms - does that mean 1/2 stitch - one stitch per cross stitch block? Also, how is the cable applied to the fabric - is it applied like the regular cotton floss? Thanks for any guidance you can give!

Hello,

Kreinik and Balger are the same. Originally, Kreinik was known as Balger and if you come across it in a chart, it either means Kreinik Blending Filament or Kreinik Fine #8 Braid which were the only two metallics they made way back when.

I tried looking up "1/2 cross" and couldn't find anything for it term wise so my guess is that, that designer has their own term for half stitches and uses half cross instead of half stitch?! I could be wrong though and hopefully another stitcher on here can you help you out with this one?!

I don't know the pattern but this is a guess - usually with cable you couch it down. Make a hole big enough to pull the end of the cable through at both the beginning and end of where the cable is going to lie. Use a metallic thread the same colour and sew it down, following the pattern diagram. Don't pierce the cable, just go from one side, over and down the other side. You don't want to keep pulling the cable through as it will fray and not look nice. In fact just tuck both ends through the small holes you've made instead of pulling them through. I know it might sound complicated but is actually quite easy. Hope this is an answer to what you're asking.

Thank you so much - this does help! I will be using it on the Firemen's Prayer on 14 count aida fabric. Before starting this project, will check out more how to apply. I have posted the picture - the pattern is from Everything Cross stitch.
