What brand floss do you use in your kits?

I use DMC exclusively. They have such a range of colors and are colorfast which means a lot to me. When I first started, I didn't know the difference between just a generic cotton floss or DMC. I learned quickly when I stitched a kit with a very large chicken. When I went to "wash" it, the red ran badly. Now I mostly purchase patterns and kit up with my own fabric and dmc floss. If I order a kit, I set aside the floss for sewing buttons, ditch the fabric (they send such a small amount and I like to have 3 inches on all sides for framing) and kit up myself. Sorry for the long answer but when I started, for me, was trial by error. Pam

Contact the designer Bobbie G. at www.bobbigdesigns.com or 1-949-454-0515 to ask her what thread is included in the kit. I think she uses DMC thread. I bought a Christmas bells kit from her at a craft show years ago the thread was DMC. Not all kit makers use DMC thread, most use their own brand, which is usually inferior quality. In that case, swap out the thread for DMC. You can go to www.cyberstitchers.com for a conversion chart.
ECS does not make their own kits. They are only a distributor of kits, patterns, and supplies. They have excellent customer service.
I hope this helps. Just a stitcher who saw your post.

Hi there Trish

I always get the stitchery.com catalogue in the mail. This sampler is really my favor but I can t afford its price. This sampler had been done by DMC floss. If U like to share your email I will be happy to get it miss Trish.

I use DMC.

Pam, just an FYI: I've been stitching over 35 years, and I also thought the DMC was colorfast. I found out differently when I did a project for a friend's baby. The orange ran. I was surprised and disappointed. I still prefer DMC, but I pre-wash dark and bright colors before stitching, no matter what the brand is.

I've never had DMC bleed or Sullivans, but I wouldn't trust anything else.

I use mostly DMC because it is available for a good price. I have finished some kits that used Anchor floss and I really like that, also. The Anchor floss never bled and it looked like it held up as well as or better than the DMC floss. Coverage was great, too. I haven't been able to find Anchor floss cheaper than DMC, so unless it comes in a kit, I buy the DMC floss.

Dee Dee, I just read your post and I am going to approach any project with dmc with caution now. I had no idea. Does anyone know how to set your colors before stitching? That is scary news. Pam Also, I have heard that Anchor's white and black cover better. Has anyone found that to be true?

I don't know about Anchor, but I have an old skein of J & R Coat's white #1001 that really covers well. It says "Colorfast" on the bobbin, too. I think it was one of my Grandma's skeins. I don't have much left and don't know if it is even available any more.
But I don't think trishalynn is asking about what we use to stitch. She's asking ECS what kind of floss they use in their kits, and we know ECS doesn't make the kits. The manufacturer's do.
