I think as a beginner that would be a tough one to tackle. Lots of colors there.

I think a beginner could do it. Be aware that it will take a long time, though. To make it more fun, I suggest you buy a nice piece of 14 count pre-gridded aida fabric. Linen is a bit more advanced to stitch on.

I think Cory is right about the material. I don't like to label anything beginner or intermediate or expert. If you love the piece, go for it. You just need to be careful so you don't lose your "place". It is a beautiful pattern. One of the new stitchers posted her first work called "Chloe". If you go through these threads, you can find it because she posted the final project frame and all. Good luck. Pam

My only caveat with this would be that it is a Dimensions kit. They are beautiful but be aware that you usually need to sort the floss and usually blend threads for certain symbols. Having done a few of these kits (and with some in my stash yet) I would say, if you like this project, get it. DImensions patterns and instructions are pretty clear. Just take your time and enjoy yourself!

I would not recommend this pattern for a beginner. First of all, I don't the first paragraph description of this pattern is correct as it is presented. It talks about a couple "hurrying to their carriage" possibly on their way to the opera. I don't see a couple here. It also says it is to be stitched on 16ct dove grey fabric, which is incorrect. The second paragraph is correct in that it lists the correct 28ct mushroom fabric that you need to stitch over two. Have you done any over two stitching? You can substitute 14ct Aida for the linen in this kit, but I think it would look better on the 28ct fabric. Have you worked with beads on a cross stitch pattern before? Have you done backstitching? It looks like there is a lot in this pattern. These are all things to consider with this particular pattern.

Susiebelle I caught the error in the description as well. My opinion is go for it. If you really love it, you can't learn if you don't challenge yourself. Just take your time and ask questions if you don't understand something or not sure how to do it.

Thank you all for your kindness and interpretations. They were all very thoughtful. I'm grateful to you all. I think I will buy it but start on a beginner project. I'm doing my first embroidery now. Next, I really want to do a cross stitch.

Better watch your step. Cross stitching is addictive! Once you start, you can never go back. Pam

I agree with everyone here. I think if you really like it, get it. If you get stuck, you can always come on here and ask for advice. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and eager to help.

I started on a set of praying hands with an arbor (kinda) and a robe draped over the arbor for my very first one. It took me three years to complete. I'd get so aggravated with it and put it down. Meanwhile, I did some easier ones to gain experience. I finally finished it and framed it; I gave it to my mother and she has it hanging in her house to this day (I was about 16). The back of the project was so thick with threads (knots and mistakes), but I learned very well from this project.

I say go for it. If you get frustrated, put it down, start another one that's easier and finish it and go back, that's what we call a "Whip" (work in progress). Everyone has a LEAST one. I have two right now, but have had as many as 5! Go for it and let us know your progress and if you need any help! Happy Stitching!

I agree that,if you like the pattern but you are just a beginner to cross stitching, that you purchase this pattern as your long term goal, then purchase yourself a simple cross stitch pattern- I believe that ECS has a ‘beginner’ Products section ( look under Products) to teach yourself and follow the written instructions. You’ll be cross stitching in no time! But be prepared to love doing Counted cross stitching so much, it’ll be addictive like the other stitchers have said.
If you run into difficulties you can always ask your questions here on this chat board; there are many, many stitchers with all types of cross stitch experience that can help you. 😊
