Where do you keep your cross stitch when not stitching?
Am I supposed to keep it in a plastic bag between stitching sessions?

Also is it pronounced AIDA like the opera or ADA like the name?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, Susieq! First of all, it's pronounced ADA.

I stitch at my dining room table most of the time. If my project is on a tabletop stand, that's where it stays until it's complete. I work on a project almost daily, and I don't cover them or put them away in any manner. I don't think it's necessary. I don't take it off the frame or Q-Snaps or whatever I have it mounted on. If I'm not going to be working on it for an extended period of time, I would either put a pillow case over it on the frame or put in it a project bag or drawer until I'm ready to work on it again. No set rules here, do whatever you think is necessary.

Mine's usually in a bag, but I have a cat that loves textiles and string, and being a lovable, possessive nuisance. And I'm a Klutz. Caution in all things. πŸ˜„

I keep mine in a bag. We have gas heat which is not the cleanest in the world. Also, I have cats who do not respect knitting or cross stitch. Pam

I generally use hoops so I keep mine in a bag.

I keep mine in a Ziploc bag so I can throw it in my purse for DR. appointments etc or in my jacket to take to work. Granted I use a smaller hoop that barely fits in a quart bag for travel or a larger hoop in a gallon bag that still fits in my purse. I try to keep everything (the needle in the material, all the floss, scissors, pattern) etc. all in one bag. I also make a copy of the pattern that I can fold and put in the bag. If I was working on a large project that wouldn't work so well but mine tend to be medium sized or smaller. I have also considered a binder of some sort that zips up but I haven't been able to find one setup exactly as I want it.

I put my project in a white pillowcase after I finish stitching; just to protect it from environmental dust, or any mishaps.
I believe there was a β€˜chat’ regarding storing cross stitch projects, which included avoiding keeping cross stitch projects in plastic for extended periods because of increased risk of mold/mildew because plastic prevents moisture from escaping, evaporating whereas acid-free tissue and acid-free boxes help in the care and long-term storage of embroidered items.

Yes, there was, but I wasn't speaking "long term"...my stitching sessions are only hours apart, sometimes days. I don't believe short term projects will come to any harm for the few days, or couple of weeks they're next to me. Everybody's circumstances vary. Sometimes unusual things happen. I'll be really unhappy if any of that comes my way. Today, I'm protecting against cats & clumsy people. Those are my hazards of the moment. πŸ˜„

I have a modified grime guard that I take on and off my scroll frame (it's essentially a tiny fitted sheet) but I do sometimes wonder if this is overkill. I only started doing this when I started my HAED, and it was only after I noticed how much dust was collecting on my magnifying glass. I figured it must be collecting on the canvas too!... Perhaps I should clean more and stitch less :)

I stitch on my couch while watching TV, so it takes up most of the couch. I have 2 baskets full of floss, and my projects on top of the baskets along with the projects on a clip board. I don't take them off the hoops, usually cuz I don't know which one I will work on. I also don't put them in a bag or pillow case, because sometimes I just sit down to stitch for a few minutes at a time. I don't have pets to mess with my projects.

I have a large zip closed bag I keep mine in but first I wrap my project in a white pillowcase. I have nosy pets that think they are more crafty than they really are.
