It depends upon the kit. Some kits use Anchor floss which has some very close match-ups. However, other kits - like Bucilla - use a less-expensive thread and sometimes have gaps in their color progression. If you don't already have one, I'd suggest purchasing a DMC color chart and/or looking on like for a DMC color listing. Again, some companies keep the names fairly similar, some dont. But if you can locate "very light brown" on a color chart, you can compare it to the color picture of the design and maybe find the equivalent DMC color. Also, don't forget you're in charge. If you want to change a color - make it lighter or darker or change color family -- you're the only one that's going to know! I guarantee the recipient won't know any differently.
