I broke my own rule
There is a reason why I should not leave the kitchen when I cook. Today’s example, a burned black grilled cheese, and a kitchen full of smoke. Looks like peanut butter or tuna fish for lunch. That was the last of the cheese, at least I still have bread.

And grilled cheese can go from golden brown to black in a matter of seconds.

I constantly tell myself (after it's far gone) not to walk away when I want to give a start to thawing of meat with the microwave. Hope this sandwich wasn't part of your buttering up to DH. :)

Are you sure you aren't my identical twin? Bacon doesn's fare very well using the same technique.

Gee, I was always told growing up that blackened grill cheese and/or toast was good for whitening my teeth! I just think Mom didn't want to make another/more.

I do remember my mother giving me a grilled cheese that was slightly burnt, she said “I forgot, you don’t like them that way”, and flipped it over. The other side was a nice golden brown!

My mom would just tersely say "If you don't like it, scrape it off with a knife".

My grandma had a toaster that still toasted but no longer stopped at the end of the cycle. Well since it still "worked fine" she wouldn't give it up. When we stayed with her we often had "dark" toast, so burned toast has forevermore been called "grandma-ed"!

I've burnt up several pans boiling eggs...not sure who taught me to leave eggs "on their own"...that might be a cooking technique I developed--and perfected-- while chasing kids... 😥

Lol, my MIL burned several pans too and once those eggs exploded onto the ceiling. She also LIKED the taste of burnt toast and burnt popcorn. Since she wasn't a good cook, I think she acquired the taste.
