Mary Denmark
Thank you for the Danish word! My husband is Native American-the Choctaw Tribe. To say hello (if you should ever need it LOL) is Halito pronounced Ha Lee Toe. Halito, Mary!

Pam is the word for hello (halito) the same across all tribes or is that specific to the Choctaw?

Each tribe has its own language. The Chickasaws, Choctaws, Seminoles, Creek, and Cherokees are called the Five Civilized Tribes because they had a written language. I know you have heard of the boarding schools where they rounded up children and sent them to "school". My father in law and any other Choctaw student who was caught speaking their native language was beaten. Thus, my in laws decided that they would not teach or speak Choctaw to their children. Sad piece of history. Also, the Choctaws were originally from Mississippi but the government moved them to Oklahoma by foot and it is called the Trail of Tears.
