Love Product--Take Care in Order Measurements for Your Project
I have been using ECS for the past 3 years and in general love the site & the vendor! The website is easy to use & I like seeing pictures of products & colors. The vendor is responsive, provides quality products and I've received shipments across country in a timely manner (even during the past COVID year).
I typically order & use 14-16 count Aida for most of my products or 28 count Linen---love both from this vendor!!! The only thing I would caution users---especially if new to the site or cross-stitching--is to be careful about the fabric measurements you order (and of course in determining the size you need for your project). I consistently use the fabric size calculators and on my first order of fabric ordered what I thought was sufficient size for a 3" border. However, when I went to check for my project I found that the cut edges were not even at all---whether due to ravelling edge between cuts from the bolt or lack of care on the cutter's part I can't say---however, it resulting in that order to have a straight edge for my project I ended up losing over 2" total of the cut sides of my project. Since then I have taken care to allot 4" extra (on the cut sides) besides what my stitch and border area requires just to be on the safe side.
I ordered this 8count Aida the past week and followed all of my precautions stated above in placing my order. I was ordering for a HUGE project in that the finished size w/border will be 36 x 33 " (picture will be a focal point for our living room for our home in IA when my hubby & I retire in 3yrs. We live in CA currently). In order to get the size I want for this, I had to go to 8ct, which also means I have to move from 2 strands to 4strands floss/stitch----so not an expensive project in supplies cost!!! Since I knew I may not be able to get the needed size w/border out of 1 yrd of fabric (since the cut edge is the 36" width on this product), I went ahead and ordered 2 yds to be on the safe side. Imagine my heart skipping a beat or two when I opened the product, and found that instead of 1 large piece of 55" by 2 yards, what I received was 2 pieces of 36" x 55" !!! I about swooned right there in my chair!! Luckily, whoever did the cuts for this shipment allotted a little extra and I was JUST able to squeeze out 36" piece after evenning out the edge on both sides (some portions of the length were just 1 stitch width wide, whereas other areas on the same cut off were up to 8 stitches wide on 1 side, and 1 x 5 stitches on the other side). Luckily it worked, but please make sure you allot enough in your ordered fabric to compensate.
For VENDOR: If this is a problem with your cutters (vs. standard ravelling), please ask that they use more caution in cutting fabric. Your customers will appreciate it immensely----and so will my heart!!!
