What size should I use instead of making, and screwing up, French knots using three strands of six strand DMC?

Good Tuesday morning everyone. Today we are visiting two friends for breakfast and catch up and the the rest of the day will unfold where it will go. Did a lot of backstitching yesterday on "Harvest Basket", but it will be worth it because it really makes that pattern pop. Enjoy your Tuesday!

I was gifted a Candamar Designs "Summer Tree Fairy" embellished cross-stitch kit that a friend picked up from a thrift store. I will never work this kit and would like to pass it on to someone that will. The kit does have a rip in the plastic (has been taped up), so I can't say for sure that everything is there.
