Plenty of shading and 1/2 stitches

It’s very small work and lots of shading within each little picture. Also lots of 1/2 stitches. The tree trunk is barely visible and I would have used a tighter weave

Puzzled by Chart

I have just purchased this pattern for the Baby Girl Tree. I dont understand one of the symbols on the chart. It is on the chart but not on the thread colour legend. I'm referring to the tendrils that wind thru the tree. It could be that its supposed to be strings of french knots but the colour does not match up on the chart and the photo of the finished piece. Anyone know who I could ask about this or has anyone stitched it themselves? Thanks, Theresa
